Your first ultrasound, hearing the heartbeat, shopping for maternity clothes, finding out the gender, shopping online for all of the cute baby things… BUT one thing a lot of momma’s are unsure of is when exactly they should start looking for a maternity photographer. When is the best time to look for a maternity photographer?

It is ideal to book your maternity session as early as 15 weeks ( usually once you have hit the beginning of your second trimester! )

This puts you more into the “safe zone” of your pregnancy, and also gives you PLENTY of time to budget for a awesome skilled maternity photographer!

**Some photographers are booked up pretty far in advance – to ensure you can book with your ideal photographer I suggest inquiring with them early and getting an idea of what kind of investment you’ll be making.

 

 

25 – 35 weeks pregnant is ideal for your photo shoot …

I always tell my expecting momma’s it’s ideal to book your maternity session for anywhere between 25 – 35 weeks. This is totally a personal preference and it boils down to how much of a baby bump you’d like to be rocking during your maternity photo shoot.

 

 

Doing a maternity session PAST 35 weeks is not ideal, Here’s why…

 

 

1. Labor can happen early – as maternity photographers we want to make sure we can get you in for your beautiful maternity session before labor or labor symptoms ensue. The last 4 weeks of pregnancy are really a “could happen at any moment “ kind of thing.

2. The last month of pregnancy is EXTREMELY uncomfortable. We are at that point in the end where we just want that baby OUT – momma’s I feel ya haha been there twice and I’ll be there again soon about 4 more months haha !

   I love to get a variety of poses and sometimes this requires sitting, laying, or walking. Making sure your not uncomfortable is super important for a successful maternity shoot.

3. Water weight – the last month usually brings on some puffiness – our face swells, feet, all of the body parts are just a tad more fluffy then usual. This can be completely avoided by booking your maternity session well before full body swelling occurs.

4. Enjoy & View Before Labor – depending upon who you book for your maternity session editing and photo delivery times may vary. You want to make sure you can share your beautiful pregnancy pictures with all of your friends and family before your perfect little babe is earth side.
